You also visit the Sera monastery located 5 kilometers north of Lhasa. This monastery was built in 1419 by Jamchen Choje, a disciple of Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Gelugpa sect. You will also visit Drepung monastery, the largest monastery of the Gelugpa sect, and Jokhang Temple, the holiest shrine in Tibet and houses the golden statue of the Shakyamuni Buddha.

Kathmandu-Lhasa's overland tour is a land package starting and ending in Kathmandu. Any hotel and tour in Kathmandu are not included. However, you have to stay in Kathmandu or take a tour in Nepal while we apply for a China visa that you need to travel to Tibet. So, we advise you to do some tour in Nepal or trekking in Nepal that includes Annapurna base camp trek and Everest base camp trek, which are most popular in Nepal.

After having early breakfast at the hotel in Kathmandu, our driver will come to collect you and drive to Kerung Border.

The drive goes through beautiful countryside. After necessary border formalities at Nepalese immigration, an hour adventurous uphill drive leads you to Kerung.

Today, you drive uphill to the highest plateau in the world. You get to see Wonderful views of the Tibetan landscape and snow-capped Himalayan Mountains like Mt. Shishapangma and Mt. Cho Oyu. Upon reaching Tingri on the way. You get to see majestic views of Mt. Everest.

On reaching Tingri, check into the lodge, and the rest of the day is free.

After having breakfast, you start to drive to Shigatse. The drive will be four hours long. You will visit Tashilumpo Monastery, which is the seat of Panchen Lama. It is the most important monastery in Tibet.

Leaving Shigatse behind, you drive to Gyantse. Two and a half-hour drive from Shigatse will take you to Gyantse. On the way, you will see an old fort that was captured in a 1904 raid in Tibet. Here, you visit the Kumbum monastery that shows you exceptional architecture and art.

Today, you drive to Lhasa. It is going to be a long drive. You will also cross Karo La Pass. From the pass, you can see Yamdrok Tso, a stunning Turquoise lake. The route then crosses Kamba La Pass and descends to the main road that leads to Lhasa.

Later, in the afternoon, you visit Jokhang temple, the holiest shrine in Tibet and houses the golden statue of the Shakyamuni Buddha. You will end the day by visiting the Barkhor market.
