Siddhartha Gautam was the prince of the Shakya King, who said to have ruled in central Terai from their capital at Titaurakot. Later on, he had attained enlightenment, at which time he became the Buddha.
Lumbini arguably has been the world's most important historical site. There are several ancient ruins of Buddhist monasteries, Maya Devi temple, a sacred garden spread over eight sq km, a sacred Bo tree, Ashoka pillar, and a sacred bathing pool in Lumbini. Maya Devi had taken a bath in the Sacred bathing pool before giving birth to Gautam Buddha.
