Take a short flight from Kathmandu to Lukla

Lukla is the starting point of the Gokyo-Renjo La Pass Trek. A short, around 35 minutes flight takes you to Lukla. During the flight, you get to see breath-taking aerial views of picturesque valleys and snow-capped mountains. The unusual location and circumstances of the Lukla airport make this short flight a lifelong memory for every traveler.

Trek through the Sagarmatha National Park

From Monjo village, the trail passes through Sagarmatha National Park, which is listed in UNESCO Natural world Heritage Sites. The trail includes any small villages, numerous streams, and dense forests. This national park is home to many flora and fauna, therefore you get to see a range of alpine vegetation on the way.

Explore Namche Bazar

Namche Bazar is the biggest Sherpa residence and the most developed village in the Khumbu region. In this village, you get to spend a couple of nights that help you in acclimatization. Spend the night in beautiful Gokyo village

Climb Gokyo Ri and visit stunning Gokyo Lakes

Gokyo Ri is a famous viewpoint situated at 5,357 meters above the Gokyo village. From the viewpoint, you get to see tempting views of numerous mountains and mesmerizing landscapes. Likewise, you visit the Gokyo Lakes. There are six Gokyo Lakes. These lakes are the world's highest freshwater lake system.

Cross Renjo La Pass

Leaving Gokyo village behind, you cross the Renjo La Pass (5,345 m). The trail to this pass is demanding and requires steep climbing. The trail is rugged. From the top of the pass, you get to witness unbelievable views of surrounding mountains.

Gokyo and Renjo La Pass Trek offers you panoramic views of numerous Himalayan mountains like Mt. Everest (8,848 m), Mt. Nuptse (7,861 m), Mt. Cho Oyu (8,201 m), Mt. Lhotse (8,516 m), Mt. Thamserku (6,623 m), Mt. Ama Dablam (6,812 m), Mt. Kantega (6,782 m), etc. Similarly, you get to see beautiful scenery, stunning glaciers, and gorgeous glacial lakes.

Arrive at the Tribhuvan International Airport, where one of our team members welcome you and take you to the hotel. The rest of the day is free for you.

Today, you go on a guided sightseeing tour of UNESCO World Heritage sites like Boudhnath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, Swayambhunath, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. The guide inform you about the major events that happened in these sites and history and stories behind them. Later, in the day, you prepare for the trek and shop trek hear if you need.

After a quick breakfast at hotel, you drive to airport and you fly to Lukla. This flight is going to be the most thrilling and memorable flight of your life. On landing at Lukla, you meet with the trekking crew and begin trekking towards Phakding. From Lukla, the trail ascends through dense forests along Dudh Koshi River to Phakding.

After having a warm breakfast, continue trekking along the Dudh Koshi River, crossing it several times. The trail further follows Sagarmatha National Park, which is home to hundreds of flora and fauna. The trail from national park ascends steeply and that can be tough, however, steeping your feet in beautiful Namche Bazar make you forget the pain you had earlier.

This is a rest day at Namche Bazar. You spend the day exploring around. You can go on a short hike to Everest View Hotel or Khumjung village. Both places are good for observing excellent views of snow-capped mountains. Trek back to Namche Bazar, and make sure to visit Everest Photo Gallery and Sherpa Culture Museum.

The trail continues to Dole. Following the same route, you reach Sanasa. From here, the trail ascends to Mongla from where you get to see superb views of the Himalayas. Furthermore, you descend on the steep path and pass through Phortse Tenga and ascend steeply through a lush forest of rhododendron & birch to Dole.

The trail steeply ascends along the side of the valley. You then walk through small thorny bushes. Further, pass by many small villages and pastures. You get to see wonderful views of Mt. Cho Oyu, Mt. Kantega, and Mt. Thamserku.

Today, the trail leads to Gokyo Valley. Following a very scenic path, you reach Pangka and descend along a river. The trail then ascends on a rocky path into the valley by the side of the glacier. You pass by the first holy lake and then second.

After having breakfast at lodge, you explore the village. You hike to Gokyo Ri to see stunning views of snow-capped mountains. Later, you visit Gokyo Lake. This is going to be a very beautiful day as you get to see exceptional scenery.

The trail gradually ascends to Renjo La Pass. Upon reaching the pass, you get to see an excellent landscape view. Further, the trail winds down a stone staircase and then scramble over loose scree to reach the south bank of a small lake, Angladumba Tsho. From here, walk through a narrow valley clogged with giant boulders and reach Lunde then to Thame.

Walking on a flat route, the trail descends to Thamo. You cross a bridge and drop down to Samde. From here, you get to see fantastic views of the mountains. The trail steeply descends and takes you to Namche Bazar.

After a quick breakfast, descend through Sagarmatha National Park and reach Phakding. From here, the trail ascends to Lukla along the Dudh Koshi River.

Today, you take an early morning flight back to Kathmandu. The flight is short and scenic. Upon reaching Kathmandu, you move to the hotel and the rest of the day is free for you to explore around and relax.

It is a leisure day for you. You are free to do anything and this is buffer day as well if you need any extra day on trek or if there is any delay or cancelation on flight to or from Lukla cause of bad weather in mountain as that happen some times.

If you want to go on a guided sightseeing tour let us know, we arrange for you. Stroll on the vibrant streets of Thamel and shop. We can also take out this day if you do not want.

Useful Information

Passport, Visa and permits for Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek

You need to have valid passport (at least 6 month valid) to travel Nepal and do the Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek. You need to obtain Nepal tourist Visa to travel Nepal, too and you can obtain Nepal tourist visa on arrival at Kathmandu Airport/border entry point or you can apply online (http://online.nepalimmigration.gov.np/tourist-visa) as well.

You are required to have some permits to trek to Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek. You are required to Sagarmatha National park entry permits, TIMS (Trekkers information management system) permit and another entry permits from Khumbu - Pasang Lhamu rural Municipality.

We apply and get all these permits for you once you book the Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek.

Extra nights in Kathmandu

If you arrive Nepal earlier and stay in Nepal later than the scheduled dates then the extra night cost 75.00 USD per night including breakfast and airport transfer and it does not include any extra tours/activities.

Domestic and International flights on Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek

The International flights to and from Nepal are not included in our price. You need to book the international flights yourself.

The Domestic flights from Kathmandu to Lukla and from Lukla to Kathmandu are included and we book these flights for you once you book the Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek with us.

Flight Delay in Kathmandu and Lukla

The Twin Otter airplanes are the only form of transport to and from Lukla. Occasionally, flights to and from Lukla may be cancelled due to unpredictable mountain weather conditions.

We have kept one extra free day at the end of the trek to use in the case of a flight delay or cancellation.

If the flights are cancelled for 2 or more days, we charter a helicopter flight to ensure that you are on scheduled flight to your home or other destination.

The cost of this extra service is payable directly to our office in Kathmandu in US cash, or credit cards (Visa Cards, Master Cards only).

A receipt of payment will be provided from which you can claim from your insurance. The minimum cost will be US$500 and maximum US$3500 depending on the number of people.

Electricity and Battery Charge

There is electricity available in Kathmandu and in most of the villages of Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek, where you are able to Re - charges your camera/mobile batteries however, we suggest you to have spare batteries too.

Luggage on Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek

Your main luggage on Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek is carried by porter, you simply carry a day bag pack with water bottle, camera, sun-screen, spare jacket, etc. - a small load that allows full enjoyment of the trek.

A trek bag or duffle bag is ideal for your main luggage for Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek, plus a small lockable bag for travel clothes or anything that you do not need during trek which you can leave at hotel’s locker room/safe deposit box in Kathmandu for free of charge.

Guide and Crew for Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek

You have professional tourist guide for a day tour in Kathmandu on day 02 (The tour guide for this day may different from the trek guide next morning) and trained trekking/certified trekking guide for the whole trek (handles the logistics and guide you and your team on the trek).

There will be a Sherpa (assistant guide) when there are 8 or more members in the group and porters to carry your luggage and there is 1 porter for each 2 members and a porter carry about 20 - 22kg which means 10- 11 KG from each trekker.

Child Policy for Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek

Children of 10 or more years can take this trek and must be accompanied by a responsible adult 18 years old, no discount for 10 or more years old children and full price are applicable.

Gratuities/Tips for Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek Staff

Tips are not included in price for services of tour guide, trekking guide, porter and driver. The recommended tip is US$ 5 from each member (of group) for tour guide (day 2) and US $ 3 from each member for driver (day 2).

The Total of US 100.00 from each member for the trek part to divide to guide and porters (it depends on the size of the group you traveling so, our trek guide will give you clearer idea when the trek come to end).

Note: Tipping for all services provided on tour is always a matter of personal discretion, however please be aware that tipping is considered by many locals to be a part of their normal remuneration and they may approach you for payment and there is no need to be intimidated by the request.

Personal expenses on Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek

Personal expenses on Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek depend largely on your habit. Most of the meals are included in the price.

You only need money for table drinks (alcoholic/non alcoholic beverages), snacks while trekking (some smaller shops are available along the trail in the areas), tips, souvenirs, hot shower (you have to pay in t some places).

If you do not drink alcohol and sopping then 12-15USD per day per person should be enough for the hot drinks, shower and snacks.

Fitness Level Required for Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek

Our vehicles are not equipped with wheelchair access, so unfortunately the Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek is currently not suitable for wheelchair users and those less mobile.

Please note that a moderate level of fitness is required with daily trekking from between 3 hours to 6 hours. You will reach an altitude of 3800m above sea level.

Insurance/Rescue/Evacuation on Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek

In case of a serious sickness or injury while you are on Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek, we do everything to transfer you to the nearest hospital.

You will be entirely liable for all the expenses incurred in the evacuation/rescue, so, please make sure that these expenses are covered by your insurance policy before departure to Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek.

Gokyo - Renjo La Pass Trek begins with an exciting flight to Lukla. From here, you begin trekking towards Namche Bazar through dense forests and small villages. The trail then ascends to Gokyo valley and takes you to the fine Gokyo village. You spend a couple of nights in the village and go on a hike to Gokyo Ri. Further, crossing the Renjo La Pass, you descend back to Lukla.

Gokyo and Renjo La Pass Trek is a difficult trek. You have to walk on steep, rugged, and glacial paths during the trek. There are many ascends and descends. The trek demands good health and strong physical fitness. If you are a new trekker then make sure to do jogging and exercise before starting the trip.

Best time to go on Gokyo - Renjo La Pass Trek

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to December) are the best time to go on Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trekking. These are the most preferred times to go on this trek as the weather generally remains stable. Likewise, the clear sky and pleasant climate makes the journey joyful and views outstanding.

Food & Accommodation during Gokyo and Renjo La Pass Trek

The overnight stay in the teahouse/lodge makes the journey even more ironic. The old-style houses, small rooms, and common washrooms might not be comfortable to hear, but the experience you get while spending the night like this is incomparable.

You can find quite a good variation in the menu at a lower elevation. Dishes like momo, noodles, pasta, pizza, sandwiches, pastries, coffee, tea, etc can be found in Namche Bazar and other villages. As the elevation increase the menu also gets limited and expensive. The meals are served by the menu of the teahouse/lodge you are staying in.

  • Lip balm. At least SPF 20, 2 sticks.
