Escape Nepal offers trekking from Jiri, the Jiri was the gate way for the Everest Base Camp Trek and when the airport at Lukla was not built and most of the people travel to the Everest Region by taking flight from Kathmandu to Lukla however the trekking from Jiri has nice and beautiful trail to experience the real trekking, the trail from Jiri is the traditional trekking trail and Jiri to Everest is a historic trekking journey follows the extraordinary and the trail became famous by the Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa when they summited Everest in May, 1953, for the first time. The trail offers scenic, fertile hills and valleys up to the mountain landscape of the Khumbu. The climax is arriving at the foot of the world’s highest mountain, the closest we can get you without being a mountain climber. The surrounding natural paradise of unparalleled Himalayan beauty is a favorite of trekkers from around the globe. The spectacular location where history was made provides a direct view of the legendary Khumbu Icefall and a thrilling feeling like nothing else in the Himalaya.

Our Jiri Everest Base Camp trek experience will also take you to one of the best viewpoints on earth, Kala Patthar with an unequalled view of Everest and nearby mountains and below the peaks is the Khumbu Glacier and picturesque valley. In fact, along the whole Everest journey, you will be treated to tremendous Himalayan scenery with majestic peaks including Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nupste, Pumori, Thamserku, Kangde and many more. This Himalayan landscape is populated by the famous high mountain people named Sherpa following a customary way of life. Escape Nepal has 24day itinerary for the jiri-Everest trek including your arrival and departure days and a day tour in Kathmandu valley, the trekking starts after a day picturesque drive from Kathmandu to the starting point of our trek, Bhandara. Then the trek heads east through the scenic foothills and valleys and their charming villages, we then cross a few high passes before reaching the DudhKosi river valley. We follow this dramatically steep valley to Namche Bazaar, the gateway of the Khumbu Region. The settlement is located in a natural amphitheater overlooking the valley with the astonishing beauty of the surrounding mountains. We take a day of rest in Namche to get accustomed to the altitude with the chance to explore the surrounding area and villages of Kunde and Khumjung. Edmund Hillary’s Himalayan Trust has set up a school and hospital in these villages. The journey to Everest Base Camp continues with stopover for the night at the magnificent Tangboche monastery, with unforgettable views of the peaks there. The Base Camp route continues to the north through one of the original Sherpa settlements in this region, Dingbuche, Lobuche and EBC and affer visiting EBC and Kalapattar then back to Namche Bazaar and a flight from Lukla to Kathmandu.

There are numerous options for more exploration in the Everest area if you would like to extend your travels here, including the challenging options of high passes, Gokyo Lakes, Renjola pass and remote valleys as well as ‘Trekking Peaks’ like Island Peak for people looking to summit a peak in the Himalaya!

On landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport, You will be met with one of our team members around the terminal Gate then he takes you to the hotel.

You can stroll on the vibrant streets of Thamel, and later, meet with team members and get brief about the trek.

You go on a Kathmandu sightseeing tour after having breakfast at the hotel. And, The tour is guided by a tour guide, and You visit different monuments. That includes Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhnath Stupa, Swayambhunath, and Kathmandu Durbar Square.

During the tour, you get to see Nepali art and architecture. In the late afternoon, you prepare for the trek and meet with your trek guide.

After having a delicious breakfast, you drive along Araniko Highway to reach Lamosangu. From here, you continue to towards Bhandar enjoying stunning views of Ganesh Himal, Dorje Lakpa, and Langtang Lirung.

From Bhandar, you trek towards Sete. The route descends to Linkhu Khola and crossing the river. And, you continue moving towards Kenja (1,570 m). Further, the trail steeply ascends to Chimbu and head to Sete.

The trail gradually ascends to Lamjura Pass (3,530 m), from where you get to see beautiful views of snow-capped mountains.

From here, you descend through a lush forest of rhododendron and fir. Further, passing through Taktor, you walk along the north side of the valley and drop down to Junbesi.

Leaving Junbesi behind, you descend and cross Junbesi Khola on a wooden bridge. You come across a junction, and following the route to Khumbu, you trek in the north.

The trail then descends through Salung and takes you to Dudh Koshi River. From here, you ascend and pass by Ringmo village. Further, crossing Tak - Shindo Pass, you cross many small streams and reach Nunthala.

The trail from Nunthala descends to Dudh Koshi River and crosses it. From here, you walk on the well-defined path and pass by terraced fields.

Further, the trail drops down by following a steep path through dense forest to Chautara. You then walk through lush forests and ascend to Bupsa Danda via Khari Khola.

The trail heads to Bhumsing (2,300 m) and ascends through the valley of beautiful rhododendron and oak forests.

On the way, you might get to see animals like langur monkeys. Further, you descend and cross a tributary and to reach Puiyan.

The trail ascends to a ridge (2,800 m) and then drops down to Surke (2,293 m), located near Dudh Koshi River.

Crossing a bridge, you walk on north towards Chaurikharka. From here, the trail crosses a deep gorge and passes by a beautiful waterfall before reaching Phakding.

You have breakfast and begin trekking following the Dudh Koshi River crossing it several times.

The trail takes you to Jorsale, where you have lunch and continue walking towards Namche Bazar. You ascend steeply to reach this village.

Today, you take a day off from trekking for acclimatization in Namche Bazar. You go on a short hike to Everest View Hotel from where you get to witness stunning views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Thamserku, etc.

Late, you visit Everest Photo Gallery, Sherpa Culture Museum, and explore the local market.

Today, you move towards the beautiful Tengboche village. The trail offers excellent views of the Himalayan Mountains like Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and close-up views of Thamserku.

Trekking through dense forests of rhododendron, you descend to Kayangjuma and move towards Sanasa. From here, you pass by another lush forest of pine and cross a bridge over the Dudh Koshi River.

The trail passes by Phunki Thenga and ascends to Tengboche. Here, you can visit an ancient monastery, Tengboche monastery.

From Tengboche, the trail descends through lush forests of rhododendron. You then cross Imja Khola and pass by mani wall and reach Pangbcohe.

Further, the trail gradually ascends to Dingboche, the summer valley of the Khumbu region.

It is the second rest day in Dingboche for acclimatization. You can go on a short hike to the nearby hill from where you get to see wonderful views of the North face of Ama Dablam and the Lhotse-Nuptse ridge.

You can also hike up to Chhukum, from where you can view fantastic views of Island peak, Ama Dablam, Makalu, Tawache peak, and other mountains.

The trail ascends to Lobuche village situated at the lap of Lobuche Peak. The trail passes by many stupas, Chortens, and prayer wheels.

Likewise, you get to see fantastic views of Mt. Tawache, Ama Dablam, Pokalde Peak, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Everest, and Mt. Pumori on the way.

From Dingboche, the trail takes you to Pheriche and crosses a small wooden bridge. Further, walking on a steep path, you reach Lobuche.

Today is the big day when you finally reach the lap of the world's highest mountain, The Everest Base Camp. The trail follows a rocky moraine offering gorgeous views of glacial ponds and icebergs.

Crossing the last rocky dunes, you descend to Gorakshep. You check in to the lodge in Gorekshep and have lunch.

Further, you ascend towards the base camp. After spending some time at the base camp, you return to Gorakshep for a night stay.

You wake up early in the morning and hike to Kala Patthar to enjoy a breath-taking sunrise along with 360-degree views of Mt. Everest.

The trail to the Kala Patthar involves a steep rocky walk. Later, you descend to Pheriche by following the same path for a night stay.

Today, you take an early morning flight back to Kathmandu. During the flight, you get to see an aerial view of the Khumbu region. Upon landing at the airport, you move to the hotel.

Today is the extra buffer day to use in case you need any extra day on the trek or if there is any delay or cancellation on the return flight from Lukla to Kathmandu.

Later, in the evening, you meet other team members for the last time over farewell dinner.

Useful Information

Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek itinerary

The first half of the trial is not crowded as most of the travelers opt for a direct flight to Lukla to do the regular Everest base camp trek. A scenic drive from Kathmandu takes you to Bhandara, from where you begin trekking towards the EBC.

The Jiri EBC trail traverses the lower Solu-Khumbu region. Crossing numerous passes, dense forests, and lovely villages, you reach Phakding village. From here, the trail moves along Sagarmatha National Park and takes you to Namche Bazar. Further, trekking through villages like Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, etc... and you reach the Everest Base Camp. Before returning, you hike up to the Kala Patthar as well.

Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek difficulty

Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek is a moderate trek and offers a good blend of challenges and adventure. You have both an easy and tough walk during the Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek 22 Days, and There are frequent ascends & descends through dense forests and rugged paths. Likewise, steep paths are also involved in the trek.

You have to walk 6 to 7 hours a day at a minimum. Previous trekking experience is not needed to go on Jiri Everest Base Camp Trekking. However, you have to be in good health and fitness.

Best time to go on Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek

Spring and autumn is the best time to go on Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek. Those two are the peak seasons to traverse in the Himalayas. Months from March to May and September to December fall under spring & autumn. The trail is more crowded, yet the stable weather and lovely climate attract hundreds of travelers every year.

Food & Accommodation during Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek

Accommodations are booked for you in all the night stops in advance. The lodge is the main accommodation during Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek. The facilities in the lodges are basic. You get twin-sharing rooms to spend the night.

The rooms can get quite cold at night, therefore a good-quality sleeping bag is recommended to carry. The dining serves as the common space and is the warmest place in the lodge. Washrooms can be common or private.

Foods are served as per the menu of the lodge. The food menu is extensive in this part of the Himalayas. You can find Nepali, Tibetan, Indian, and Continental dishes on the menu. Likewise, you can also buy bars and snacks on the way, which is not involved in the package cost.

Drinking water is available almost everywhere. Carry a reusable water bottle along with water purification with you for extra safety.

Equipment list for Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek

Equipment is very important to have a much comfortable and successful Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek. So, you need to pack your gear carefully and carry only the things that you need for the trekking and not pack anything that you do not need.

  • Four seasons sleeping bag (we provide you one if you do not have).
  • Duffel or Rucksack bag to keep all your gear, which will be carried by the porter.
  • Daypack for yourself to keep your things, such as a camera, water, and things that you need for the day.
  • A small lockable bag to keep the extra stuff that you do not use on the trek, and this can be kept at the hotel in Kathmandu and get a return after the trekking.
