Scenic drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal

From Kathmandu, you take a short drive to Sundarijal, the starting point of the hike. On the way, you get to see the countryside views. It is a beautiful village famous for the short gateway, biking, and picking among local travelers. Here, you get to see Sundarijal Hydropower station that supplies electricity to Kathmandu.

Adventurous trail through lush forests and picturesque villages

The trail passes through Shivapuri National Park, which is home to numerous species of flora and fauna. You come across different types of vegetation and herbal plants. Likewise, the trail moves along fine villages with beautiful views.

While returning from Nagarkot, you stop at Changu Narayan temple. This temple is part of UNESCO world heritage sites and believed to be built in the 4th century. It is a two-story pagoda style temple dedicated to the Lord Vishnu. Changu Narayan Temple is one of the oldest temples of Nepal, where you get to see the finest carvings and fascinating collection of ancient statues.

You drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal. The drive will be 35 minutes to 40 minutes long. From here, you walk on the stairs that lead to Shivapuri National Park. 

Upon reaching the entrance of the national park, you will see well-defined boards that mark the way to Chisapani. Passing by a beautiful waterfall and watershed, you trek through Tamang villages and reach Mulkarka. The trail then goes through dense forest and takes you to Chisapani.

Today, you hike towards Nagarkot. The trail slowly ascends and takes you to Chauki Bhanjyang, where you take a short lunch break. 

From here, the trail continues offering wonderful views of the Himalaya range, stretching from Dhaulagiri in the west all the way past Everest to Kanchenjunga in the east. After reaching Nagarkot, you rest and explore the area. In the evening, you will see a gorgeous sunset.

You wake up early and see an amazing sunrise along with Himalayan panorama. You then have breakfast, and then hike for a couple of hours to reach the holy Changu Narayan temple.

It is a very ancient and artistic temple of Nepal. You then take a short lunch break and drive back to Kathmandu.

Chisapani Nagarkot Trek itinerary

Chisapani Nagarkot trek takes you to the outskirts of Kathmandu amidst tranquil surroundings. The hike begins with a short drive to Sundarijal. From here, you walk through lush forests of Shivapuri National Park and small villages to reach Chisapani. Further, the trail ascends to Nagarkot from where you get to see the beautiful landscape and snow-capped mountain views. On the last day, you drive back to Kathmandu En-route stopping at Changu Narayan temple.

Chisapani Nagarkot trek difficulty

Chisapani Nagarkot 3 days is an easy hike in Nepal. There is no drastic change in the altitude, therefore you do not have to worry about high altitude sickness. The trail passes through lush forests and a few rugged paths, which is bearable for individuals with sound health and fitness. You have to walk 5 to 6 hours a day that does require effort. This hike is okay for people of all ages.

Best time to go on Chisapani Nagarkot trek

The best time to go on Chisapani Nagarkot hiking is from March to May and September to December. You can also go on this hike during winter- December to February, but the views might not be clear because of unclear weather. Likewise, you can do this small trek in monsoon as well.

Food & Accommodation during Chisapani Nagarkot trek

During the Chisapani Nagarkot Hike, you stay overnight in a guesthouse/hotels. As it is not a remote area, you get almost all modern facilities. The guesthouse do not be lavish, but there is basic services like a hot shower, wifi, charging facility, network, etc. The rooms usually come on a sharing basis with a private or common washroom.

You  have three meals a day based on the menu of the guesthouse. The menu are vast and includes cuisines like Nepali, Tibetan, Continental, and Indian. Dishes like rice, curries, soup, veggies, meat, egg, toast, sandwich, pasta, Momo, Noodles, Thukpa, Pudding, Porridge, etc are available.
